Sweet Little Things . Week 4

Sweet Little Things . Week 4

This week was busy.

BUSY, I tell ya.

And I’m still a little tired from last week’s brush with the common cold, but oh, there were so many sweet little things to enjoy nonetheless, like …

Watching The Boy grow. I don’t reminisce too much because I’m really enjoying Matt at this age, but when I take the time to stop and look at his photos, I’m in awe of how far he’s come. From a 4-lb. preemie to my sharp-as-a-tack 6-year-old, who thinks he’s 12.

Unbelievable.

I don’t know which picture is my favorite, but my gosh, that one on the right where he’s pulling his little sock is definitely a contender.

Even then he hated them on.Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download

We’ve been encouraging Matt to take control of Ruby when they’re playing, instead of calling one of us to have her sit or stay or lay down. Hearing him yell “Ruby, come!” in the deepest, most authoritative voice he can muster makes me smile every time. It sounds about as authoritative as Jiminy Cricket.

I wonder if dogs can giggle? Either way, I give Ruby credit for playing along.

Sun spots on dog beds. How is it that they always seem to fall right where a pup curls up? I’d lie there too if it weren’t for all the dog hair.

{My friend actually made her own, you know. Can you believe that? Just whipped up a dog bed one day. When you’re done visiting here, be sure to check it out.}

I don’t care how crazy it sounds, but I’m including the Swiffer in my list this week. Every mom of a boy who’s supposedly potty-trained should own one, if only for the sake of her bathroom walls.

Seriously, when does aim come into play?

It saves me from extra hard labor every time I need to venture into the bathroom after a play date.

Smoothies. I’m weird. I don’t like to take the time to eat the required daily servings of fruits and veggies. I mean, if you did, what else would there be time to do during a 12-hour day?! I think it’s way more efficient to just throw them all into a VitaMixer and drink ’em up.

Mmmm, delicious.

My new favorite includes mangoes, peaches, and peanut butter.

White ceramics. There are so many beautiful patterns out there, but I find I get tired of them easily. I just love the visual calm of white.

Thankful for Thursday, and Little V-Neck Sweaters

Thankful for Thursday, and Little V-Neck Sweaters

The other day, I was folding The Boy’s sweaters, and that simple act filled my heart.

It just feels good to appreciate the little things … why wait for something huge to show gratitude for the thousands of ways we’re blessed?

Today, I’m thankful for warm little v-neck sweaters with sweet designs on the front.

Even if I was recently told they would no longer be worn.

That they were babyish.

I’m thankful that he has that choice.

The Boy has never had to wonder how he will stay warm.

His mother has never had to worry about how she’ll clothe him.

His closet isn’t full. Despite the appealing marketing schemes of places like Gymboree and Old Navy {which I’m a sucker for}, I don’t overdo it with his wardrobe, but he still has too much, considering there are little ones out there with practically nothing.

So whether he’s outgrown a stage where I can dress him in juggling snowmen or crimson trucks toting Christmas trees or not, I’m thankful for those little sweaters.

And I will lovingly wash and fold them with care, and pay them forward.

Sweet Little Things . Week 3

Sweet Little Things . Week 3

It finally caught up with me.

That winter cold we’re all trying so hard to avoid. I can’t complain though … it’s just a wee little sore throat and slight congestion. Hopefully my flu shot will help me bypass suffering from anything worse than that. Prayers said and fingers crossed.

Wait … I think one cancels out the other. I’ll stick with the prayers.

Anyway, even when a sniffle’s got me down, I can’t help but notice all the sweet little things surrounding me, keeping my spirits aloft and a good, solid smile on my face.

Here are some I enjoyed this past week:

The Boy in jammies. And yes, he’s watching TV {gasp!}. He’s outgrown Max and Ruby and The Backyardigans, but a few select shows on Disney XD are fine by me. That’s what a day off is for: staying in your pj’s, cuddling up in mom’s bed, and relaxing before an afternoon of play.

Cooking beside the cats. My grandmother had these cool cats in her kitchen for as long as I can remember.

Cats I love them.

The male cat is inebriated {see the tongue hanging out?} and his date {complete with mink stole} has had quite enough of his shenanigans. They remind me of Sunday nights at Nonni’s house, when I was about 4 years old and my older sister was still alive. We’d be fresh from a bath, sitting in front of The Wonderful World of Disney while my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother fixed dinner. Those cats make me smile every evening when I prep a meal for my own little family.

And how about 4 o’clock winter sunlight reflecting off a counter top? I’d say that’s pretty special, too.

Cozy places to read. Now if I could only tame my nervous energy enough to make a habit out of using it.
