A Squirrel And A Tulip

A squirrel and a tulip played a vital role in getting me through to the other side of grief.

I’ve told the story before, but in a nutshell, a few mornings after I returned home from the hospital after the premature birth of my girls, I was looking out my bedroom window. I was devastated, but somehow, the sight of a

persistent little squirrel

climbing up the fragile stem one of my tulips put a moment of lightness in my heart. It was such a feeling of hope, because I wasn’t just blue at that point: the loss of the pregnancy and my daughters brought me as close as I’ve ever been to wanting my life to end.

The little things—those little points of light we see every day—have the power to do that, my peeps, and so to honor that little bugger {and because I just loved how the copper looked against the slowly changing leaves} I give you this. My little squirrel friend, I only wish it were full for you.

  1. Such a sweet little memory amidst all that sadness. I love your idea for the 31 days!

PS Now you’re making me rethink my squirrel hatred…

  2. Blessings are available to those who choose to see it. You have just blessed the squirrel which blessed you — it’s beautiful.

I lost one of my would be kiddo. I was at the point too of wanting my life to end. Painful at some point until we realize that so much beauty is still offered to us. Huggggs 🙂

Just kidding, I will settle for the bonus Starbucks card 🙂

  5. Aw, my dear friend. I did not know. I’m sorry for those sweet little girls not to know such an incredible mama. 🙂
